The Polish Sejm has adopted a law on Poland’s participation in the Entry/Exit System (EES)

On Friday 18 October, the Polish Sejm adopted a law on Poland’s participation in the Entry/Exit System (EES). This electronic system will allow the registration of third-country nationals entering and leaving the territory of the European Union. The EES is to apply at land, sea and air borders.

Changes to Polish Border Guard operations include:

  1. no stamping of entries and exits in passports
  2. fingerprinting of foreigners
  3. taking photographs of foreigners
  4. implementation of a calculator that calculates the period of authorised stay within the Schengen area.

The purpose of the EES is to fight crime and secure the external borders of the European Union.
